Why mathegami?

Haga's 1st theorem (Small)_0.jpg

数紙 comes from the Japanese (Chinese) character 数 seen in numeral (数字), mathematics (数学), etc. and the character for paper, 紙, seen in origami (折り紙), kirigami (切り紙), paper (用紙), and so on. Strictly, 数紙 could be Suugami or even Suuji ... but, since this is a multi-cultural cross-over between mathematics and paper, I have decided to call 数 mathe-, from mathematics, and 紙 -gami, from origami (for the purists, mathekami just doesn't sound right to me, neither does suupaper!).

About

This has grown from a number of separate demonstrations of origami to small groups of teachers into a much wider integration of mathematical activities into all sorts of paper-based work - such as pop-up cards, paper-cutting, university level problems and origamic architecture.
